Why we grow sunflowers

Clarkson Farm has been growing Sunflowers for the black oil seed market for over 10 years, often as a 2nd crop following Wheat. As the farm transitioned to becoming Certified Organic we learned that sunflowers make an excellent crop during the 3 year transition years between conventional fields and organic fields.

As a result, Clarkson Farm worked with it’s sister company Clarkson Grain to develop Prairie Melody Birdseed. Prairie Melody sells the bird seeds as pesticide and neonicotinoid free and their products can be found throughout the US on online retailers like Amazon.com and Chewy.com as well as local retailers.
